Anyone wanna play turn-based multiplayer?

I've been playing ksp alot recently and i was wondering what multiplayer is like. It's going to be a kethane race thing where you have to get the amount required to win.

(You need kethane mod)

These are the rules:

-A turn is one mission (e.g. Land a miner on the moon, attack the opponents ship) and if it's failed you cannot re-try it (except if you're testing it on the launchpad)

-You cannot switch to the opponents ship (this is classed as spying)

-Your ship has to have your initials in its name (e.g. [KKA])

-No other mods can be used

-Part clipping is allowed only when a part won't attach

-Cheats can't be used (obviously)

-You only have a limit of 20 Kerbals (if they die, you lose)

Tell me if you want to play with me or if you want to change the rules. :D

So, you are planning to email your savegame to each other between turns? That might work!

A public dropbox folder tends to be a good way. Everyone can access the file and then return the file. We'd just have to set up a designated thread for keeping track of who has it and the friendly character banter which accompany these. It's often good fun . . . . Until someone shows up with an armada.

I never use my dropbox but have one since I use a yahoo email. I will volunteer it as the source for hosting the save file.

I won't if you won't.Wouldn't it be easier to each keep an up to date copy to throw at each other so if something breaks you only have to go back a turn not start again.I use mediafire

That too, but I think the ease of access provided by dropbox is good. If you have downloaded their app, it syncs automatically every time the contents of the shared folder are updated so we upload it in the following format: <savegame name>-<date of turn>

That gives us a record of all saves uploaded and you can then download the correct one.

Also, I don't plan on bringing the armada but I have no doubt we will see one if Zekes shows up. :P

EDIT:

I just realized something. As of Kethane 7.7, the kethane.cfg doesn't exist. It's integrated into the save file now. He who scans the planets would be revealing it for everyone. Just something to keep in mind. As such, I almost think we need a mission list. If you know what you want to do before your turn, you can declare the mission to effectively reserve it for you.

Let the question now be posed . . . Shall we begin and who will host the thread?

I'm always available, looking at a 3 1/2 day weekend starting tomorow, and spend way too much time on these forums as it is. Shall I make the thread or would someone else like to?

I could. Besides, I'm in the school holidays. I got today, tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday left. And also, how do you make a thread?

I have kinda always wanted to do a turn based multiplayer but cooperativly... If any ONE PERSON would be interested in doing so with me just send me a message. At the same time I would plan on making a mini youtube series out of it if you don't mind.

Me. I could destroy your crafts.

We need a dedicated topic for this. I would apply but there'd be too many players, legality as to if all people actually own KSP.... etc. What we need is a program that checks their ksp install to see if it's authentic, then sync over persistence files. This way, Squad has peace of mind and you don't need to deal with any messes of transferring files.

The first half of that, no. Just no. I have uninstalled games on the basis of overly paranoid anti-share security.

Out of curiosity, how many launches will this succession game allow? Most of my interplanetary missions have at least two launches, frequently more. Secondly, do we need to return the kethane to kerbin in order to achieve victory, and finally, are we allowed to sabotage other players' crafts as long as we don't take control of them or otherwise interfere? (i.e. by intercepting someone's orbiting kethane tanker with a kinetic kill vehicle)

If we're required to return the kethane to kerbin but can't sabotage other players, there's more or less no reason to go anywhere but minmus, given that the landing delta-V on minmus.

Personally I'd suggest giving each player a period of in game time to gather kethane rather than limiting them to 1 mission, I'm not sure what time frame would be best, but if you want interplanetary missions to be doable, I'd give people 6 months of in game time, or a full year if they need to return to kerbin with the kethane (if this is solely going to be within the kerbin system, 30 days should suffice), though you'll have to limit them to a certain number of launches to prevent someone from launching 50 kethane landers and strip mining minmus in that time.

Ultimately, it really depends on how much kethane you're expecting people to get, though I'd suggest between 5 and 10 launches allowed per turn...

And, given that you can apparently sabotage other players as long as you don't switch to their crafts (sorry, reading comprehension fail), I'd say go for around 5 launches maximum per turn.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
