Bail out!!

That is what I said just before EVA ing my kerbal from a failed parachute deployment.

The kerbal sort of "rocket jumped" on the explosion of his mrk1 lander can, he lived.

I wanted to share this because I find it very funny that if my parachutes fail I have in the past completly survived via bailing out and jet packing down.

I haven't heard of anybody else doing this and wanted to know if it was just my rockets that have a better chance of survival if you jump out of them when landing.

This is a pretty handy thing to do in last-ditch situations. Parts have fixed damage tolerances but Kerbals are apparently made of some kind of super-strong green rubber material and tend to happily bounce back, literally, from a lot of otherwise deadly impacts. I've saved two or three guys this way...

I used the ladders on the side of the vab to get a kerbal up to 300m/s.

Needless to say he didn't survive, although, bailing out from my experiences can help your kerbals survive

Oh, so you found the ladder cannon too? Good to know it's not just me... :P

Still, a fall of over a km on Kerbin WILL kill a kerbal.
