Help, there is a gas giant between me and minmus

One of my friends got me hooked on the KSP demo a couple weeks ago. After "landing" on the Mun, I bought the full version. In my first real mission I decided to attempt to go to minmus with an insanely overbuilt rocket. In attempting to get a minmus encounter I ended up getting a Kerbin escape, so I decided to take the rocket interplanetary. The easiest encounter to set up was with Jool, and after an eternity I finally got to Jool. Unfortunately I aerobraked too deep in the atmosphere, and ended up "landing" on the surface:D. Unfortunately all hands were lost .

No just exploding a few hundred meters below the surface. I misjudged how deep to aerobrake (100km was too deep).
