How do you transfer resources?

Now, I know you can dock with other ships, then transfer resources with the other ship, but how exactly do you do it. I've launched a refuelling station into orbit around kerbin, I can dock with it, but then the fuel doesn't go from the space station to the space craft. How do you do it?

Hold left ALT key and right click on the two tanks you want to transfer between.
