Symbols printed on the side of ships?

Recommended Posts

Every real-world spacecraft has the symbol of its home country printed on it somewhere. Could it ever be possible to place the current mission flag on the side of a ship in the VAB/SPH? And perhaps, the name of the ship (like the space shuttles) as well?

I would like this, but it shouldn't have to be the mission flag. It should be any flag from the flags folder. This would allow you to put different decals on different parts.

To implement it, parts would define a portion of their mesh to be the "put decal here" part of it. The part would define a rectangular area of itself to be the zone where a decal image would be stretched onto. Some small parts probably wouldn't have a decal area.

I think that any part technically allows this. You just have to manually edit the texture file, this is easiest when the files are in a some normal format like .tga. As for some more user friendly method, I'm not sure. I agree about using the flag though, that should be a relatively simple thing to implement.

Are there any mods that allow something like this?

There was an older one I can't find now, but a quick search on spaceport turned up this one:

http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/flag-decals-0-21-1/

I don't see any reason it shouldn't still work in .22

[EDIT] Found the one I remember. This one also has a reversed flag part:

Thanks a bunch! I'll give them a try.
