All of my friends liked the Gal Civ games... and I can't fathom why. I'm not prone to hatemongering or anything like that, but in this instance I genuinely could not see anything redeemable in this game. The game art, the story (or lack-there-of), the tech tree... (oh god those tech descriptions). The whole time I felt like I was playing an awkward port from a Super Nintendo game.

Sorry, I don't mean to rant on a game that you love, I'm just curious, what about it made you like it?

Well, its a space based 4x TBS, with insane levels of customization and moddability rarely seen in games(even to this day), along with a near total lack of DRM(Steam required, no objections there).

Aside from that, the tech descriptions actually got better per-expansion and the story needed a little time to evolve(it took 2 games and 2 expansions to do so...) into something worthy of it's sales.

Another thing is that its a game from '06(-'08) that runs decently on my system at max graphics with high res mods and AI repairs that make it think better(or at all).

Its not everyone's cup o' tea, but it certainly adresses many of the issues found in other games.

I like Gal Civ 2. I really hope this game is worth it.

Well, one feature caught the eye of millions.

MULTIPLAYER

Also it seems their AI will adapt based on other player's strategies it reads from the Metaverse.

that could be interesting on GCIII's equivalent of Suicidal.

Fair enough. I remember playing SciFi strategy game where it was the opposite, everyone I know hated it but I loved it to bits.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. It's funny because all it really was was the Age of Empires II game engine with star wars models laid out over it. And it worked so well! In fact since most of the troops had a ranged attack (instead of being limited to shortrange melee with swords and spears and stuff) it really mixed things up. It was damn fun loading your droids onto big tranport ships, flying over an ocean, and then just smashing into a gungan citadel of some sort.
