So what exactly does Science earn us?

I get that it unlocks parts which are otherwise locked out and I really like that approach as an RPG fan, I enjoy a good grind here and there. But is there any real reward currently in .22? Are there a number of new parts hidden up the far end of that tech tree? Can some of the experiments answer some of the questions we've had about the planets composite structures?

Currently it seems to just add to your science score but doesn't really flesh out the universe much. Any of you guys performed more meaningful science further along yet?

Aside from science, I think what the new setup is trying to teach us is a concept known as "Delayed Gratification"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_gratification

I think the lack of this in KSP before, was the reason why some people, esp. those who were too busy to mess with mods or "resource-mining" type of missions, lost interest or had waning interest after doing some successful milestone like Munar landing, or orbiting Jool.

In early great computer games, the "core replay value" of a game, aside from the ability to "mod" it, was a system that introduced Delayed Gratification as a rewards system. This is typical in some great, classic computer games of the past, and I think Squad is after this core, because they want KSP to really become a great and classic game, and I predict it will be.
