Science in Sandbox Mode

For those players who don't want to start playing with a tech-tree but appreciate the idea of accumulating science just as a score-keeping method, it would be nice to be able to collect data in Sandbox mode.

Players can also use the science points for their own campaign rule-sets as they see fit.

I agree. Science is much more than a currency for the challenge aspect of Career Mode; It offers a vast amount of gameplay and potential immersion to Sandbox.

Allow science modules to function in Sandbox and simply set currency costs to 0. Players can then limit which Nodes they'll unlock -- creating a potential array of different challenges they can control.

Alternatively, science as a means of letting you clone and upgrade stock parts according to your preferences would be pretty nice. Learn stuff, use what you learned to make your stuff better, use your better stuff to learn even better stuff. Just as useful in sandbox as career.
