Total War: Rome II Question

Hey guys, i recently bought Total War: Rome II, and jumped right into a campaign, an, being the first time i've ever played a total war game, things arent going fantastic. Sure, i can hold my own in a fight, I've been a little self educated in Roman tactics, however keeping Public Order has always been a problem for me, i can never seem to have food, public order, and money all at the same time, and i usually have none. If anyone would like to give me a few pointers, id be greatly appreciative.

Stay away from tier 3 and 4 buildings (except public order buildings) until you have enough order & food for them. Also the bread & games edict helps when you have the whole province.

The whole design of the system is pretty flawed, it was improved in the last patches but it's stil wonky. Also, Roman units are overpowered beyond belief, just roam around and "liberate" the italian peninsula. Once you have Cisalpina you usually swim in money, especially now that the AI begs you for trade agreements once you have a ressource.

I have not played two but here are some tips from one that may carry over.

If you have money laying around you need to kill more things.

More people = More money. Go forth conquer and bring back slaves to enlarge your cities.

Not really applicable. Rome II is very different (read: worse) than rome I. You can't really carry concepts like "take slaves" over.

I have found that I don't have this issue. When I take new territories I repair damage and let my army sit until public order returns to normal. If I have issues with public order after that I build a building (or convert) or two to get more public order, such as temples.

Oh and I demolish buildings from the old civ that contribute squalor, and rebuild lower versions from my own culture.

if you gain the entire province, the one edict that converts to your culture is very useful in contributing to public order.

Mkay, thanks guys, I'll start another campaign and try to keep PO up, ill get back to you on how it goes.

I forgot to tell you this in my last post, but another thing I've run into is if the city is too advanced, it may contribute too much squalor for you to handle. In this case I will demolish the core and rebuild it until it is a step or two lower.

Well, all the economic advice is well and good, but im still flopping in the PO department, ive never gotten into the green so far, would anyone be able to list some ways for me to gain it?

My advice wasn't economic. It was in regards to public order.

When you invade a city you lose a lot of public order, and generally you offset it by leaving troops there for a short time.

Within a few turns the general unrest should go away if you repair the damage you caused by taking the city. Also, if the population doesn't match your culture, then you will experience less public order until they are all converted to your culture.

You get no benefit from buildings that come from another culture, so if you want the +public order from a temple you have to convert it. If it contributes squalor, you should seriously consider demolishing it and building a lower tech version of it until you are in the green. Building certain temples will contribute more public order than others. The equivalent of a forum can also add some public order.

Bigger cities also contribute squalor so if you really can't control the squalor and it is the equivalent to a roman city or Urbs, you may need to demolish the city and build a lower tech village or hamlet until you have time to grow it.

Squalor = negative public order. If you can't get in the green, its usually because of squalor.

Also with conquered cities of another culture it may sometimes be a good idea to just raze them ...

this way all inhabitants of the foreign culture are gone and all foreign culture city buiuldings destroyed ...

often speeds up the acquisition of the foreign city into your empire

Maybe not the most moral way to deal with foreign populations ... but hey, the victor determines what´s moral and what not :D
