List of places and biomes in KSP (planetary geology & geography) - UPDATING FOR v1.0.x.

Just discovered this thread today, I love what you've done so far.

The coordinates, are those MechJeb based?

Just a few observations/requests...

In the OP, you're missing the surface info for Moho.

Any chance of eventually adding a list for the monoliths and Easter eggs (maybe with coordinates as well).

Any plans on eventually adding coordinates for the Kerbin biomes? If you do, might I suggest you use coordinates for a flat area in the various biomes so players can land a rocket or plane as they wish.

Majority of the work was done by others. :)

Coordinates in the first post are coordinates the users would report in this thread, so I can't tell.

Thanks for the Moho thing, I've corrected it.

Eastereggs coordinates are already collected somewhere. I think there's even a special site with a map for each one, I don't know its URL.

Kerbin biomes are vast and, just like places on Moon, exact coordinates aren't needed. Once you see where it is on the map provided in this thread, you can land there without problems.

It look like the narrow biome zones on Mun it gone. 2.37,-135,4 was is famous for having 7 biomes withing a couple of kilometers, but I can not find Northern Bassin and Northwest crater zone is gone.

It leaves 5 biomes so its still an interesting place to go,

Might want to correct the information in the OP above the data we've found, about Minmus only having high, low and surface now.

I will not correct the first part of the original post, as it was written for v0.22 so it's kind of a historic thing for KSP.

There's a huge, screaming title "UPDATE" below, it's impossible to miss. :)

Added to the list. Thanks.

OK, I realize I need practice picking colors, but here's the closest thing to a decent biome map I've been able to set up for Minmus. It doesn't line up as obviously as the Mun or Kerbin biome maps do. The best way to line them up is to look at the flats, the shapes are quite visible and fairly distinctive.

If anyone would like to know how to make these (the first time was a learning experience) or want to make this in different colors, just ask, it's not hard once you've got all the pieces (and there's a version of ScanSat that works in the current version).

Question: I have been getting splash downs in water that are reporting as Grasslands, Higlands, Desert, Badlands. Are thes glitches or bugs or the real deal?

As far as I can tell these are bugs. The only difference that I get when splashing down is if it is near a land mass or out in deep waters.

I have made an exact measurement at Jool:

Flight: 0-120 km - IF YOU ARE ON A SUB-ORBITAL TRAJECTORY! Otherwise this area will be Space Near.

Upper Atmosphere: 120-138 km IF YOU ARE ON A SUB-ORBITAL TRAJECTORY! Otherwise this area will be Space Near.

I see this is not mentioned on the first page so please add:

ATMOSPHERE MEASUREMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLY WHEN YOU ARE ON A SUB-ORBITAL TRAJECTORY!

I pulled the exact values for space/flying altitude thresholds directly from the game, as well as the science data multipliers for each planet/situation. There are a few updates that can be made here, and several that I can fix on the wiki. It also needs to have additional columns for the difference between multipliers for flying low vs high and in space low vs high.

Pretty much this, same is true everywhere, might be amusing on Duna as you have to get very deep if you come in fast,

easiest way to sample jool is an rocket with decent dV, like a rocket with an LV-N and 3-4 48-7S, 4-5km/s on the LV-N before going suborbital, two hotkeys, sample high and sample low, go down sample low, burn out, transmit data while buring, sample high before you leave.

No getting below 0 meter attitude don't give an bonus measurement. Hopefully contracts will ask us to test an mainsail below 0 attitude on Jool, then bring it back to Kerbin for study.

Hi, would be nice, if you could pull the values from 0.23.5. There is currently no distinction between high/low atmo/space, because previously they were identical (at least in the table so I minimized it). But when this is different now it definitely should be updated. Also how does splashed work for bodies without oceans? Is it simply a theoretical value and every body has one?

I'll repeat this again for 0.23.5. But it seems that most of the values are simply ignored. "Splashed" looks like it has a default value, even if there is no ocean. And the different values for flying low/high and in space low/high don't seem to be considered. The altitude thresholds are probably the only really valuable thing to come out of that code.

I won't post the whole list again, but a quick check shows they are all the same. This is what I expected given that there weren't any changes to the science system. I'll check again in 0.24, as that seems like the more likely update to contain changes to the ScienceParams values.

Of course, whether or not the game is still ignoring the same values as it did before is another question. The only way to test that is in-game.

*cough* Jool has coding for a few science experiments if you land on it. I know for sure that you used to be able to "land" on Jool, but since that may no longer be possible, Jool's surface experiments are unobtainable.

EDIT: Here's a video of a guy landing on Jool AND planting a flag.
