Um.......I'm Stuck (tech tree)

Recommended Posts

I think I'll tweak the probes a bit before Eve, making them rovers instead. That'll give me even more science.

No bodies except Kerbin and Mun have biomes, so there's no difference between a rover or a static probe in terms of the science they can do anywhere else.

I'm not seeing any biomes... Anywhere. I don't get it. I have a probe around the Mun and Kerbin. Both on polar orbit so they should all at some point hit all the biomes. Hundred orbits.. all science is exhausted. My point count just went down and down with every transmission. Do the biomes only apply to surface samples?

Biomes only apply to surface and EVA report in LOW orbit. For the Mun, that's below 50km

Ah, then I'll scrap that plan for the moment (or do it anyway, because it's cool to shotgun a planet with probes).

Or, maybe wait. I suspect biomes will appear in future versions.

I'm fairly far up the tech tree. I've recorded conditions for goo, crew, EVA, and materials bay on launchpad, during flight, upper/lower atmosphere, orbital/suborbital flights, high Kerbin orbit, and high Munar orbit. Still developing a lander for Mun. Try to take readings from the different biomes of Kerbin, too.

It's easier to land and come back from Minmus than Mun.

Also don't forget Mun Low orbit

So far, each major crater on the Mun is a different biome. I have been to 3 so far. Has anyone found any other biomes other than the craters and the flatlands?

There are 14 different biomes on Mun. 15 if you count both the poles but they both return the same science so it really is 14 places of possible research. The canyons that come of some of the craters also count as a 1 biome.

I've heard that you can get a bit over 9000 sci points from the surface of Mun and then more from low orbit passes over each biome.

As many have mentioned: Shoot some unmanned probes out into space. Close orbit on Duna and landing on Ike, transmitting until all the science points were used up netted me close to 2k science points. Doing the same with Eve would probably get you closer to 3k.

That's what I did last night. Had never travelled beyond Mun or Minmus but I launched a probe to Duna, passing high over Ike before it ran out of fuel. Didn't get the full value of course (no low orbit or surface for Ike) but got 1600-1700-ish points and unlocked quite a bit.
