"Sir! Sir! Mr Mission Director! We've just received a report from Intelligence! That new OOP-3 spysat we put up for them? It's detected parallax: The Krussians have launched!"

[sOME TIME LATER, IN THE BRIEFING ROOM]

MD>"Alright team, I've gathered you here today to brief you on this mission. With me is Kirrim Kerman, one of the members of our Intelligence corp. Kirrim, please?"

KK>"Thankyou sir. Alright guys, we've got a situation. Sigint has recieved a report of a Krussian launch, with the intent of destroying our new Laythe base.

Murmurs bounce across the room. Can this be true? The Krussians haven't had this capability previously!

KK>"Alright, alright.. quiet down. Our intelligence is pretty solid: we have a ground report from a mole in 'their KSC', including rough schematics, and a report from one of those new OOP-3 spysats, uh, 3X i believe.

MD>"Thanks Kirrim. You're welcome to watch over the proceedings, but we've got it from here."

MD>"Your mission is:

  • Build a vessel capable of intercepting the rocket BEFORE it reaches Laythe.
  • Either terminate the vessel, interfere with its telemetry, or overpower the crew and bring it back here.

MD>"It is imperative the rocket is stopped before entering Laythes SOI: We have no intelligence as to the type of weapon they are intending to use, and we need to ensure our Laythe base is safe from any threat. Analysis of the design and photographs show a design flaw: the ship was built without electrical generation or RCS, it's completely ballistic: no maneuvering capability."

tl;dr: Stop an 'enemy' ship from reaching Laythe.

You have a few options here:

  1. Destruction
  2. Fully destroy the rocket, including all crew modules and fuel tanks.


  3. This is considered the easiest, and is scored accordingly.


  4. Capture
  5. As the Krussian ship is staffed with 7 of their Kormin Kosmonauts, you will need at least that many astronauts on your ship to subdue the captured crew. Dock your ship to theirs, and bring the combined ships home, landing them safely on the KSC grounds.


  6. Interference.
  7. This is for more
    creative
    solutions.


  8. Push their ship so it collides with Vall or Jool? This is the category. It has to be something special or unusual however.


  9. Also note you cannot 'dock' to the Krussian vessel when using this mode.

SCORING:

DESTRUCTION METHOD:

+50 Points for FULL DESTRUCTION! (all crew modules and fuel tanks)

+10 Points per GM away from Jool the ship is at destruction (Starts at 68GM)

CAPTURE METHOD:

+75 Points for successfully returning enemy vessel to Kerbin

+10 Points per 'enemy' Kerbal (Kirmen) captured (empty slot on ship)

+15 Points per Kerbal brought in excess of the required 7

+20 if both ships land within 2km of KSC

+100 if at least one ship lands on the launchpad or VAB.

INTERFERENCE:

Scoring for entries under this category will be community based. It is highly encouraged to show creativity.

Krussians have kosmonauts, not astronauts. ;)

And a question: is it possible to download the file without installing their download manager? I don't like the idea of putting that exe to my PC. Perhaps you could use a different file sharing option such as sendspace?

my "creative" solution just let the thing try and crash into the base with it's super secret rade/location jamming thing (ie it doesn't hit the planet)(ok fine I just had to try :P

It's a bit tricky to hit a different planets moon from LKO, I had to fiddle things a bit to get it as accurate as I did. That said, I'm glad people are trying it.

Ok, so here's my first attempt complete.

Partially failure (read: total)

I sent up the good ship "Rocketeer" to intercept. Caught up just within Duna's orbit, proceeded to blast away with the girder rockets you see on top.

Note that I didn't test these prior to launch, expecting the symmetrical thrust would cause them to fly straight.

Sadly, this failed, and the net result of my volleys was a single fuel tank destroyed, and the Mk1-2 pod disconnecting.

I then suicided the Mk1-2 capsule to pieces.

While my execution failed, it does prove that it is, in theory, capable: i rendezvoused with the enemy ship well before it got anywhere near Jool, and if I had any competence in weapon design, the Destruction mission would have most likely been successful.

Sure, I've never been too fussed about mods, and at least one of the options rewards creativity..

If I knew mods were allowed I would probably not bother with this challenge. Mods make it way too easy.

That was awesome! Like some sort of outer-space death spider eating the ship one bit-at-a-time! My initial design attempted inwards-firing engines like that, but I wasn't able to get it working right.
