Too little science given for experiments, reports, and stuff

Recommended Posts

Most of the time in the lower tiers i get ridiculously low amounts of science. I know you're just starting out but I feel we should get more science in all scientific experiments. What do you think?

I think that's a hard one to answer as it depends on the skill level of the player. Maybe we need a hard mode and an easy mode. I was able to get to the moon and minmus very easily once I learned how the science system worked. And then to a different planet with no problem. I made over 2000 science points in one trip, without even coming back to Kerbin!

At one point I built a rocket that could just goto different poles of Kerbin so that i could do science there. In the easy stages, if you know what you are doing it's VERY easy to get points for research.

Problem is that a lot of people are new and the learning curve is steep for them. So in that case, maybe an easy mode that gives more points in the early tech trees.

Personally I found that once I could leave the orbit of kerbin I was able to get about 1000 science per mission. It was too easy. admittedly reaching the Mun was troubling though. I'd have to say rather than make it easier, simply give us more things to do. if we are forced to spend more time on the early game, that's fine, as long as the options are diverse.

I think having more things to do would be the best option here. You pretty much exhaust all the science points in your first couple orbits around the mun and kerbal. For those of us whoa aren't as good at getting to the other planets more points around the mun and kerbal would make things much better.

tell me how the tech tree works.

There are a few easy ways to earn science quickly in low tiers. Kerbin, for instance, has a lot of biomes. Each EVA report is relevant to a specific biome, so if you get into orbit around kerbin you can take an EVA report over the desert, another one over the water, etc, and store *all of them* in the command pod. They won't overwrite each other because they are considered different experiments.

Similarly, the Mun has 14.

So just orbiting around Kerbin and the Mun and then returning should be able to get you several hundred.

Combine that with something completely ridiculous on the launchpad, and you get something like this: 1472 science using starting tier parts.

You must be doing it wrong... what, do you want to unlock 1/2 the tech tree without leaving kerbin? So far with every flight I can unlock 1-2 blocks of the tech tree with each flight with a "normal" small rocket...

Don't forget you don't have to have the kerbal inside your rocket to recover your rocket. Jump out and collect EVA and surface samples after you land. Recover your kerbal and then recover your rocket.

OK, I'll try.

I don't agree, if anything science is a bit too easy to gather right now. My 2nd craft was a manned lander that was going to gilly, while there i discovered i had enough fuel to make it to eve too and even a parachute i forgot on from testing phases. Poor Jeb would be stuck on eve but the amount of science i made from the whole trip was enough to unlock almost the entire tree (this was 2 hours since i started 0.22) and right after that i had the parts needed to go and rescue jeb :D The next mission was supposed to be a moho lander.. i missed my mark and would have to settle for a flyby but i still got enough science to finish unlocking the tree.. the end.

I think the game could do better in guiding the player towards more science though, right now its a bit of a guessing game and i can see how it would seem to be harder than it actually is.
