Science text in sandbox

Recommended Posts

Having the text you get for experiments in career mode should be in sandbox mode, along with science points. It kind of ruins the immersion when you run experiments and get "You really don't feel like you are learning anything" "This data isn't useful" "This would be better if the R&D center was open."

It would be nice if the flavor text showed up in sandbox mode, yes. It shouldn't give any science points because, well, there's no point to them in sandbox mode, but the flavor text is in many cases amusing. So, having the flavor text would add to the experience.

Very much agree, although I'd go so far as to award science points as well (although there is nothing to do with them).

I love the freedom of sandbox, where my imagination is the only limit, but I also like the 'reward' of science for a mission, it gives me a reason to send a probe to where ever. Even though science is useless in sandbox there is still the opportunity for lots of fun, running science experiments and getting your data back to Kerbin. I'd love the option of doing this in sandbox, and if you don't want to do it, thats fine too, as it wouldn't be a requirements like in career.

Make a new career save, go into the save file, give yourself science, unlock everything.

But then I don't get my old stuff in orbit.

What I did was basically hulksmash two persistance files in notepad+ together (A fresh career save and my current save), and give myself enough science to unlock all the parts so I can use my ships. Now I have all my old stuff in career mode.

How to do it.

GET NOTEPAD++ IF YOU AREN'T A MASOCHIST

Step 1: Create career game and launch one ship, just leave it on the launchpad, save, and quit to menu.

Step 2: Navigate to savegame folder, and copy both your old game and the new career game folders so you have a backup.

Step 3: Open the persistance.sfs files of the career mode copy and the old copy

Step 4: On the career one, select the first instance of the word "FLIGHTSTATE", and delete it and everything below it.

Step 5: On the sandbox mode save, select and delete everything above the first instance of the word "FLIGHTSTATE"

Step 6: Copy all from the edited sandbox file, and paste it into the career file where "FLIGHTSTATE" used to be

Step 5: Give yourself science by editing the Sci= (science here) line close to the "FLIGHTSTATE" Line

Step 6: Science

HOW TO ADD MOD PARTS (Untested):

See the little

"ID=start

State=Available"

lines?

Just add the names of the mod parts you want added. I assume.
