Nuclear engine on Duna

Recommended Posts

Can a Nuclear engine on Duna lift a 21 ton craft?

I dont know the equation for such a question so Im hoping one of you might be able to answer, its to see if my lander will even be able to take off again.

Thanks!

patience! that was only ten minutes :D

g on duna: 2.94ms^-2

F=ma

21 ton = 21000 kg

21000x2.94=61740N

Nuclear engine thrust: 60000 max

you're just short.

awwwww :( Ill have to think something else up then.

Thank you!

I'm thinking Im just going to add 8 of those tiny radial engines to it, Ill only activate them whilst landing and taking off, once in space Ill switch to the nuclear engine again for maximum efficiency :)

2 nuclear engines would work.

Yeah, but due to the design of this lander 2 could not fit anywhere... Unless I did radial structure points (or whatever those things are called :P) which might cause problems with symmetry whilst feeding the fuel tanks into the engines. Hmm.

If you're still not set on your design and you have access to BZ-52 Radial Attachment Points, and assuming you're using the large parts, plop a couple of those on the bottom of the fuel tank and attach your nukes to them.

Alternatively, a bi-adapter or tri-adapter could do the same job.

EDIT: Ninja'd.
