Plenty of science-ing left to do

I've decided to wait to do career mode till 1.0 is released. (Maybe 13 years from now) Anyone else?

I thought I would be disappointed that I couldn’t collect science and get it back to base. Perhaps there will be some science-ing to do in a later version. Turns out I have plenty of stuff left to do in sandbox. Check out my mission plan, I will be reporting on it in mission reports. What other science-y stuff is there to do?

KSP mission plan

Never lose a Kerbal

Leave no Ker behind

Kerbin Space station

Mun Space station

Fly around Kerbin (break record)

Life Support

Bio-fuel

GPS

Base on Mun

Base on Duna

Base on Laythe

Space fleet, (mostly stock)

Flag ship

Tug

Shuttle program (3 ker)

Space fighter

SSTO space plane (2 ker)

Rescue plane

Rescue boat

Rover(s)

Wagon

Lander(s)

Use nose cones

Visit every planet and satellite

Probe\rover

Com satellite

Map surface

Land if possible

Plant flag

Mine for kethane

Visit every Easter egg

Collect science data and transmit back to base? No chance.

Not the only one, I messed with it a bit, but went back to my sandbox. I like where they are going but not quite feeling it yet.

So far I have starting mining for Kethane on the Mun, been to Minimus and mined there with one of my SVO craft. Since refined my fleet of VTOL space planes. And I have a mission standing by for Duna waiting for their window and a Mission to Dres planed and in the works.

Mostly interested in the sentient computer core and the Microwave Beamed Power, followed by warp engines.

The Science Lab generating science points fits well in sandbox mode. There is a "Transmit Scientific Data" button in the screen shot, but I don't see it in the instructions. It would be neat if there is a "get your science back to base" requirement. I wonder if you can do experiments with the stock science parts or eva reports to get science parts.

Some pretty lofty goals there. Looks good, but where is the Eve landing and return mission?

I, too, am in the group of KSP'ers that are not interested in science, yet. I found myself sitting in the 'career' VAB saying to myself, "Okay how do I [do this mission] without [this part] and [that part]."

But then the little voice says, "Why bother? Just build a proper rocket and [do this mission]." Maybe when the 'Mission Control' building is activated, there will be a reason to achieve a specific goal, but until then I'm back in sandpit working on challenges.

That said, I think that if I had started KSP after 0.22, I'd have had a much smoother learning curve/blown up a lot fewer Kerbals.
