Your MAXIMUM science from ONE launch (without transmission data)

And what exactly is Curiosity doing with soil samples it is picking up?

Yes, that brings me on to a point, SIGNAL DELAY, please! I would love it! So you have to time your signals so you have direct line of sight to kerbin or another probe (a bit like remote tech, but you can still control it if you have a 'CPU' on it)

I hope that we will see more remote tech style features, like needing to setup a network of satellites so you have line of sight links to relay data over long distances.

Is this thread about number of points in a single mission with just starter tech or is this any tech level? With starter tech I just got 80 on my first mission.

Do I have it right that you don't always get maximum points with transmissions -> it depends on the what the % is on the transmission button is?

and that you DO get maximum points for collected data on the capsule when you recover it?

I'm slightly confused at how that works.

You seem to have the way of it.

As for my best science in a single mission, I believe I've gotten north of 420 points from my first Minmus landing. Only had Goo and the Cargo Bay, though; I'm sure if I waited a bit, that could have been better.

I only managed 554 science points for a Minimus mission without transmissions included... does the Mun hold more science value or do you just send up a ton of science?

The Mun is a treasure trove of science thanks to its many biomes: each biome counts as a different location on the surface, and in orbit as well for EVAs and gravity scans. You can actually max the tech tree out only using the Mun, something I hadn't fully appreciated until recently.

It is about more than 500 Science from every biome. It is more than 10 biomes on the Mun...

Probably my early Jool system mission.

This was back before anyone really understood very well how transmission worked, so I sent up a ton of science equipment and took samples all over the place.

I think this is the only way to interesting gameplay. After all, we are not going for score points - we are going for challenge.

To send one way light probe - where is the challenge?

Just return home and recover kerbal - also is easy (except from Eve ground).

But return home massive science craft - this one really interesting.

I have an Jool mission underway now who will do sample and analyze returns from all the moons. Three landers one for Laythe one for Tylo and a lander with three replaceable return modules. I will however transmit also. I also uses an external storage container mod for samples so the reuseable lander will dock the old and pick an new.

Kind of like the idea that some science from samples can only be earned from return. say total pool 350, 200 for each returned sample, transmit limit is 225, so if you sample and transmit multiple times and took home an sample you could get all the science, 2-3 sample return would also do so, however if you took home an sample first later analyze would not be very interesting.

Haven't done many return missions

I usually get at least 900-1000 from my runs to the Mun and back.

I mostly transmit and repeat experiments which can rack up large amounts of science, I think my probe drop onto Eve probably yielded 2-3000.

I have a probe doing a tour of the Jool system which is racking up nicely.

I have just done my first return mission outside Kerbins SOI. . . Jeb is on his way back from an Ike landing and I have high hope for the amount of science it will yield. . . the stimates for the gravity readings are HUGE although I hear they may be bugged.

Anyway transmitting isn't no good, its what NASA does 99% of the time after all

Although I would like to see the implementation of things like transmission delay, line of sight and larger more powerful signalling devices required for large distances
