Can fuel transfers be balanced between tanks?

Recommended Posts

I have a mission to Jool that includes a large LV-N powered transfer stage and a crewed lander, among other components. I forgot to disable crossfeed on the various docking ports before I made my Jool transfer burn, and as a result I burned off the fuel in my lander's first stage. The center tank of my transfer stage emptied first and the remaining fuel is in six radially attached tanks.

Is there a way to transfer fuel to my lander equally from the radial tanks on my transfer stage? In other words, the empty tank on my lander is a Rockomax X200-16; is there a way to fill it with exactly 120 units of fuel and 146.67 units of oxidizer from each radial tank, so that each radial tank is left with the same amount of fuel after the transfer and I avoid an imbalance?

TAC Fuel Balancer mod is the easiest way.

But otherwise you have to transfer manually, by clicking on each tank and transferring in and out, and that can be a pain not to mention time consuming.

Its a pain, it helps to have an small tank like 45 liter or less on an probe to adjust. with as they fill slowly.

Now another question is if you need to balance all the tanks? They are balanced now, if you drain two on each side it would still be balanced.

You can transfer from one tank to many, or from many to one, but not many to many.

Sounds like you want to transfer from many to one, so Alt+RightClick them all, then on the destination tank hit the "transfer in" button and it will draw from all the other tanks equally.

^^^ This. Ever since I learned it was possible, I've used it many, many times.

This was new for me.

And it works, this save a lot of time :)

Thanks.

Just found that this can also be used to balance out fuel to.

Hodo is rarely wrong (why don't you have more rep, by the way?) but in this case I have to say TAC FB is the choice of people who don't explore enough mods. Goodspeed does much more.

STRONGLY agree - although Goodspeed has been transferred to new ownership as GPOSpeedFuelPump. Basically just a recompile for 1.0.x and some more priority levels.

(to those who haven't used Goodspeed/GPO, it uses a priority pumping system that gets saved with the vessel, so you don't have to re-initialize it every time)

For what it's worth, my experience was that neither TAC nor Goodspeed really felt up to the job when I was dealing with large and complex ships with lots of fuel tanks. Though I suppose the stock system is even more limited.
