for some reason it seems like mods are unstable and i can only seem to download one mod withought the game crashing or weird stuff happening like the kraken. Since I havent been able to get very far in the tech trees i'm wondering if the tree gets messed up because of more than 1 mod.

It shouldn't... Mods that use the tech tree either add parts to existing nodes or make new nodes that would include their parts. There's "vacant" nodes in the stock tree for mods like B9 and MechJeb so they don't need to add to the tree. If however you're using a mod that re-organises the stock tree (like say VetTech) that can lead to problems with the tree displaying properly when also using mods that add nodes...

However, problems when it comes to the tech tree usually result in things not showing up properly on the tree itself and parts not being loaded into career mode. If the game outright crashes, it might just be a memory issue. There should be a crash log in your KSP directory. Be so kind and show us it?

Yeah, number of mods shouldnt matter (till you run out of memory, anyway.)

I have about 30 mods, with half of them being parts packs, installed, (a total of 980 parts so far), and only a couple small issues of parts not showing up, which I think is caused by incorrect installation...No crashing though.

Parts need to be "added" to the tech tree by a required tech to unlock them. It could be the mods you're using are not all compatible with SCIENCE!...
