DataScale values, bug 1578?

Recommended Posts

So I spent all this Science on getting the seismic/nosecone/grav detectors, then immediately noticed the bug described in issue 1578:

http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/1578

So as an experiment, I went into the sciencedefs.cfg file and set those values to 1 as it describes at the bottom of the bug.

I guess I was expecting the game to grant me high science amounts for those sciences, but instead, the game just reduces the amount shown in the window to match what it actually grants me.

Based on that behavior, I guess the bug is: Those values were meant to be multiplied by the datascale amounts, but they were only multiplied in one place (the display window) and not in the other place (the actual granting of points).

So, by editing the datascale values in sciencedefs.cfg, although I'm making the two values match now, I'm not actually getting the extra science points that the game designers intended for me to get.

So what I'm wondering is: What were the original values for those Datascale amounts? I want to change them back but I was stupid and edited them without making a backup of the file. :-)

I mentioned this in your other thread, but the amount of science you get is the correct amount, the bug is in the display, so setting the mentioned value to 1 is fixing the problem and making it easier to transmit the experiment results rather than getting you less science than intended.

Yeah, sorry for splitting this into two threads, but I wanted this thread to be about fixing the file back to the original installed version (stupid me for not making a backup). We can discuss the gameplay implications in the other thread.

Do you know how to find the "patcher" file mentioned above?

Sorry, question was aimed at blizzy. :)

The patcher is in the same folder as KSP.exe and Launcher.exe - at least in my Windows/Steam install.

But here regex talks about that he changed the cfg to yield less science. The link in his signature lets you download several different ScienceDefs.cfg files, one which is the default version.

Interesting, I'm glad I checked before answering. There is no patcher in the 0.22 zip file. The first time you run the Launcher, it will download and install the patcher.

Hey look at that, I've never seen that Launcher screen before. I always just ran it from the Steam menu before. I see that the Launcher allows me to bypass Steam altogether. Nifty.

I ran the Launcher, launched the game with it, but no "patcher" appeared in the folder:

Hey look at that, I've never seen that Launcher screen before.

The Launcher is new to KSP 0.22.

I ran the Launcher, launched the game with it, but no "patcher" appeared in the folder:

Odd. It might be a difference between a KSP-store copy and Steam copy of KSP. My copy is a KSP-store copy, so if all else fails, I can just open up the zip file and copy the file I need back out of it. I'd be surprised if the Steam app didn't have a way to reinstall "corrupt" files.
