.22 Carrer Mode Soil Question. Multiple moons in one trip

Recommended Posts

I am playing around with career mode and have went to duna.

Now i want to go to Jool and land on at least 2 moons in one mission

My question is:

If i have one ship with one command pod with one kerbal, can i collect soil from both moons in one mission or will they override each other?

Do i need two separate command pods on one ship?

Or do i need a single 3 man pod for this?

I wanna know before i design a ship. Thanks

You can have several soil samples from different planets or biomes in one pod. It's only when two samples are from the same place that it rejects it. The same with EVA reports too, if they are different, you can have as many as you like.

I went to the Mun, got a sample from one of the craters, then flew over to a canyon (different biome), got a sample there, then when I got back to kerbin I grabbed a sample from the ground where I landed and put that in the pod too,

If you're not transmitting it, you can keep exactly one EVA report and sample from each surface. You are not, however, limited to one EVA report and/or sample overall at a time. You can get as many as you want as long as each is from a different body. As well, you can store an EVA report from for each possible situation around a body (high orbit, low orbit, upper atmosphere, lower atmosphere, surface).

Short answer: You only need the one pod.

Long answer: As long as the samples are from 2 different places (2 separate biomes, 2 separate moons, 2 separate planets, etc.) you can store as many as you want. Theoretically you could store a sample from every biome on the Mun and Kerbin and every planet/moon in 1 command pod. This also applies to EVA reports.

NOT however crew reports. You can only have one of those per pod, but since you can transmit those for full it doesn't really matter.
