RSS feed for KSP daily

Hello there :)

The forum's The Daily Kerbal section is fed with an RSS feed directly from the tumblr blog itself, so adding an RSS feed for that forum would be slightly redundant. I'd recommend just using the tumblr blog's RSS feed.

BUT, that doesn't point to a place with comments!

Though it will do for now.

Maybe every Daily Kerbal could have a link at the bottom pointing to the relevant forum thread?

edit: turns out I can't even comment on that latest Twitch Thursday forum post. People will want to discuss these things, might as well give them a place...?

That's the stuff right there, thanks.

This may be a dumb question but how do I use a RSS feed?

There are programs that read RSS feeds and display them for you. I, for example, use Feedly but there are others.

RSS has been around for a long time now and I still have no real idea what it's for or how to use it. I've looked it up a few times and always get confused.

I tired using one once... all it did was add a bookmark with all the past articles in it and did not live update or notify me when there was a new posting... which is what I thought it was for.

I'm also not going to be downloading any separate program. If it's not built into the browser... or maybe a plugin then it's worthless.

Also thanks FEichinger. I had no idea there was now a Daily Kerbal forum. Though I'm puzzled why there are not comments allowed... If Squad were just going to use the forum for announcements of articles... the Announcement forum is right there... why not use that?

Must have set it up wrong. I use Feedly to keep up to date on all my webcomics, for instance - among other things, like TDK here.

RSS is a protocol that lets sites put up their articles, posts, or whatever into a "stream" where a reader can grab them and place them in a frame or something on a page. So in your reader you might have the latest news articles from CNN, BBC, ESPN, and an assortment of your favorite webcomics and bloggers on one page (either as links, a partial article, or a full article in a box, depending on how the RSS feed is setup and how you want it to look)

For the Daily forum up there, each post is basically scraping the actual HTML from the tumblr blog and plopping it into the forum post.

There are lots of "My portal" services out there that let you set up RSS "home pages" for yourself - sometimes limited to their own network. The standalone programs are quite flexible and customizable, but there is a Firefox plugin, and probably one for Chrome too. https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/simple-rss-reader-srr/

never used it, so it might suck but you might try it out.

Aahhh

As for easy rss, I use rain meter desktop to keep me apprised of my favorite posting places... And it puts on square on the desktop !!

That is because RSS feeds need to be refreshed to see updates. The reader simply checks all the feeds once every X minutes.

I for example use an RSS reader on my phone to keep track of ~20 webcomics and a few blogs. I set the refresh time at 6 hours. I'm not in a hurry to read everything the minute it is posted.

I just want some program to keep track of the stuff I still want to read, without having to check 30 bookmarks manually.
