SS Palomino

Recommended Posts

So I have noticed not so many designs inspired by vessels from science fiction media.

So, for your consideration,

The Palomino.

Here is the original:

And here is the concept I am working on:

She does like to spin even with RCS on, and the struts are very necessary. Even with the spin, though, she does get good elevation. However, only half the tanks are used. She shuts off with about 11 or 12 still full.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. She uses stock parts, C7, Nova, and one decoupler from the Retro pack.

Addendum: .craft file attached, for those who\'d like to tinker.

It struck me when watching the film that the shots of a long tunnel down to the lower end of the ship conflicted with shots in the command room, coupled with scenes taken as the Palomino docked with the Cygnus and the size of the docking arm. Disney [i think they made it] didn\'t seem to have settled on an exact size.

Hollywood likes the larger space inside the smaller container. I remember one episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9 where they make the inside of the Defiant seem as big as the Enterprise D

I wanted to build the Hunter-Gratzner, but there are no suitable mods.

It would still be fun to get it as close as you can with what you can find. I know I can do a better Palomino if I can find one cylinder to put in place of the main structure instead of the jury-rigged group of fuel tanks.

Hi samstarman5

This thing is telling me to start a new topic but seeing as this directly relates to the USS Palomino I thought it had best go here.

You recreated a ship from one of my favorite films, and inspired me to see if it was possible with stock parts, so here it is, the fully stock Palomino, she\'s Munar landing capable and not hard to fly.

Here is a full Imgur gallery of the flight, it was a rescue mission to a crashed prototype Palomino: http://imgur.com/a/Y7B29#0

Awesome work, there. I figured the stock parts would do the trick but was trying to get one solid module for the 'crew' section, to make it more to the original\'s design. That didn\'t pan so well but I stuck with C7 and Novapunch parts anyway.

Yours looks very solid, and tempts me to make an attempt at building one up in stock from scratch. May leave it in orbit around the Mun, investigating any curious astronomical anomalies.
