I'd say emotion but I think you are looking for something specific. Sadness. Loneliness.

you can't touch it in the physical sense

something everyone knows and avoids but not death

associated with emotions but is not a emotion

memories or imagination has said to be close but not quite

so this is what i got so i am just gonna try something errr the end?
