Riddles

Eh, it's just a guess really. And the way the riddles are, you never know if something's literal or poetic. Vexx's "tune of an ancient song" had nothing at all to do with music, and to "die" could well be a metaphor for something unrelated to actual death of living things.

Martian Water?

(Doctor Who reference intended)

Awwww yiss. I'd completely forgotten that franchises existence practically. So much bacon! SO MUCH POWER!!! (I bet no one will get that reference)

Torrents? Whitewater?

(The Muppets? It is a phenomenon..)

Well, the Muppets was a phenomenon, but not the one I'm looking for.

is it a bullet? also i have the next riddle as I answered MajorJim right (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/56832-Riddles?p=1710154&viewfull=1#post1710154) but i shall wait patiently until this one is solved

Oh man, a bullet fits really well. If only "Running" was replaced with "Flying", that'd probably be the answer.

I'm thinking things like... waterfall, tsunami, hurricane/typhoon... any of those?

Unfortunately no. (Hint: The answer is completely unrelated to those)

Should I update the riddle with a new verse? Just as a hint for those who are having miniature aneurysms right now.

A snake?

A fat lady? (It's not over until the fat lady sings.)

A shark?

I would want to write some witty replies to those answers, but I feel that updating the riddle should suffice.

Running without legs

Screaming without voice

Slicing without knives

All without choice

Howls without ring

Rumbles without quake

For to hear one sing

Is to die in its' wake

New verse(s):

Noise without source

Sounding so coarse

I know it “hurtsâ€Â, matey

Between fifty and eighty

I will also stress again, you will need to think a little outside the box for this one. It requires quite a long stream of thinking, but I know someone here can do it!

Is it a waterfall?

Or arthritis?

I have heard of some cases where arthritis caused death, but I didn't think it was too common. A waterfall doesn't work well in the end, but I hope that wont stop you!

Speed? Age?

I have a feeling you're starting to drift away from the answer. Keep trying!

Lightning? A storm?

Getting a bit of the wordplay, I see. Unfortunately this isn't correct, but you're moving toward the right track.

Computers?

I don't know.

I've gotten sliced by a computer before. It didn't feel good.

A little stumped? Well, what noise do computers make? Follow that line a little and you'll find yourself getting closer.

List of hints:

1. Specific

2. Phenomenon

New 3rd hint: Drone

I'm surprised you haven't questioned the meaning of "Fifty and eighty" or discussed it with anyone else. These both don't fit the criteria of the second verse.
I'm evidently interpreting it as a frequency, which both electricity and sound have.
List of hints:

1. Specific

...

New 4th hint: Not generalized

That's not a new hint :P

EDIT: Anyway, I'm guessing tinnitus. Though I don't see how it fits much beyond being "noise without source".

You know not generalized means specific... So that fourth hint is not a hint...

Maybe distinct would be a better word? Maybe that's more of what I had in mind... Then again I might as well remove it now.

Explosions?

Sound Waves?

Thunder Claps?

Explosions would be a great choice, but only miss out on the fact that they linger around after the... well, explosion. In the form of seismic waves and some sound.

Speaking of sound, you're getting closer! Sound waves are unfortunately a general thing, but you're moving the in right direction!

Just as with sound, thunder claps are a general thing, but this time it's not actually moving the right way.

List of hints:

1. Specific

2. Phenomenon

3. Drone

New 4th hint: Worldwide

New 5th hint: Akin to a voice

This line of thinking will put you closer.

That's not a new hint :P

Heh... (curse you, Muhaouko!)

EDIT: Anyway, I'm guessing tinnitus. Though I don't see how it fits much beyond being "noise without source".

Starting to catch onto the third verse. Tinnitus is actually closer than you might think, but lack sync with the first verse. (Except for "slicing without knives")

List of hints:

1. Specific

2. Phenomenon

3. Drone

4. Worldwide

5. Akin to a voice

It's starting to look like there are a number of contradictions here... hmm.

Well, we'll see. Let's tally the score.

--Sound

--Explosions

--Tinnitus

--Storms

--A bullet

The common point between most of these "almost" answers seems to be the instantaneousness of them, and their tendency to be... important... only for a brief few moments, if even that long.

Starting to think it might be some kind of quantum phenomena here, but I suppose that's likely to be a bit too technical (though if it is something like that, it explains why nobody's got it yet).

EDIT: The pealing of a bell?

Well, we'll see. Let's tally the score.

--Sound

Out of all of these, what if I told you sound far more important? (I'd probably still not be helping, and that's why I'm gonna add a new verse soon)

The common point between most of these "almost" answers seems to be the instantaneous of them, and their tendency to be... important... only for a brief few moments, if even that long.

Man I wish I could change the answer now. I think I made this a little too ridiculous now that I think about it. Getting it out right now: They are all close for their own separate reasons (With the exception of Storms and Explosions)

Starting to think it might be some kind of quantum phenomena here, but I suppose that's likely to be a bit too technical (though if it is something like that, it explains why nobody's got it yet).

EDIT: The pealing of a bell?

Actually, that would explain a lot. To tell the truth, no one knows what causes it. It very well could be a quantum phenomena, which is where the next verse is going.

I don't exactly know how to answer to a bell (maybe check the door, but that's just me). This'd have to be some massive bell of yours to go anywhere (Is that a hint in itself?)
