Lines 3 & 4 Trees, what masts are made of, where born on shore, and ships are constantly plying from shore to shore

Lines 5 & 6 Describing how tall a mast seems.

Lines 7 & 8 Same as above.

Lines 9 -12 The chase of a foe and setting of a sail

Lines 13 & 14 References the place of origin of masts

It reminds me of a pencil. The lead and the eraser wear away, and though the wooden part is also worn away in time and was indeed once grown, it will not regrow.
