Riddles

It'll come to you in a sudden flash of inspiration.

Maybe.

And newpage,

Up and down, or left and right,

Mix and match, but be polite.

Loaned for eyes, owned for ears,

Still the origin's unclear.

Away from home not often found,

Though in Hawaii there's its sound.

On the net sometimes a mess,

That's all your clues, so take a guess.

Clue 1: "It's linguistic related".

Is it language, words or grammar?

Up and down, left or right could refer to the direction that different languages write.

In order to form a sentence you have to mix and match words in different orders but have to be careful to be polite.

Loaned for eyes but owned for ears implies a sound.

We are not sure of the origin of language.

You won't find a specific language spoken much away from home, for example you won't find Chinese spoken much away from China.

Though in Hawaii there's its sound has me stumped.

On the net sometimes a mess could refer to the stereotypical grammar on the Internet.

It is linguistic implies language of some sort.

It takes years to learn to use well. To me that sounds like grammar.

Edit,

New to the thread, has someone made a National Treasure reference yet?

Is it a tongue?

I don't think the answer's a tongue. "Away from home not often found" doesn't make much sense.

I was thinking the tongue is rarely outside the mouth, though the Hawaiian part of the riddle makes it a bad guess (like just about everything else I've come up with). I've read the wiki article on the state of Hawaii and the Hawaiian language, nothing made a connection for me. :(
