[Stock] X tons to orbit with less than X parts!

Recommended Posts

Can you get X tons to orbit (peri over 70km) with less than X parts? choose any X you want!

Build a payload and weigh it by placing it on the pad and looking at it's info tab in the map screen (or weigh it with mechjeb or engineer). Round down to the nearest integer. So if your payload is 60.203 tons, your X is 60.

The part count of the payload does not count towards your total.

You may not use any of the resources the payload.

You must decouple the payload in orbit. You may count the decoupler as part of the payload.

You may use a controlling pod in the payload.

If the part count of your launcher is less than or equal to the rounded down mass of your payload, you beat the challenge!

Alright it is possible, as I suspected. I got a 7.36 ton payload in orbit with a 6 part launcher.

There are several screenshots needed to give all the necessary information. I've taken a screenshot of the payload on the pad, a screenshot of the payload's info tab on the map screen showing that it is 7.36 tons and 12 parts, a screenshot of the whole launcher with the payload in the load vessel screen to show that it's total part count is 18 parts. Since 18 - 12 = 6 my launcher is 6 parts (or you can just count it). And I've got a picture of the payload in orbit, and one on the map screen to show that the peri is over 70 km.

If you do all those, we can verify you did the challenge, but I'm not going to really double check it.

There were two revisions to the rules that I decided to include that make the challenge a bit more easy. You may omit them if you want to. I decided to let the decoupler be part of the payload. (this is normal with station module payloads which have docking rings at the end) and I also decided to let the controlling pod be part of the payload, since this is the case in normal gameplay as well.
