One additional even dated back to 2012.. There's also been several challenges on "kessler syndrome" where players compete in debris count.

Only one problem with so much junk in orbit other then a slight risk of crashing into it. Every piece of junk has to be calculated to update its 3-D position in the game. That will slow down the game after a while just like huge rockets do during flight.

I currently only have about 3 pieces I try to deorbit most of my stuff. The most I ever had was back in .20 when a rocket carrying a nice RT commsat blew up when the linkage broke and sent a mainsail engine through the sat... A few pieces were sent on escape trajectories

I swear at times I can't even make debris even if I try, somehow i managed to have the debris fall back to Kerbin every time, maybe because I tend to not have enough delta v in the launch vehicle...

Recently in campaign mode I have gotten a few pieces with my mun and Minmus missions though :)

This is from my sandbox save file "Reality" where I don't quicksave, kerbals permanently die, and I don't delete any debris (failed unrecoverable missions are also turned into debris so there are less flights in progress) RIP to Bill, I attempted to send him and a crew to Dres which I didn't discover was incredibly small until they got there.... couldn't deorbit to it and now they float endlessly simply labelled as debris.. ;.; UPDATE: kerbal won't let me take screenshots! I want to show you guys theres 157 debris and the majority are orbiting kerbin, its actually ridiculous because there isn't a "clean" side my planet has a full ring of debris. When I orbit any thing you are guaranteed to see 3-7 debris orbiting close by within 10-50 km! If I fix my screenshot taking powers I'll be so happy to post pictures of my dirty planets debri rings.

My Career mode Executive Committee On Planning Space Stuff and Long Run On Names (ECOPSSLRON) passed the "No Space Crap Left Behind" Act to prevent Kessler Syndrome and to keep my laptop form melting. As such, I don't have too much floating about, most of which is spent interplanetary transfer stages in highly elliptical orbits so they don't effect my normal operations (and are WAAAAY too far out to warrant "cleanup" missions).

My workhorse heavy and mid-range lift rockets are staged so the last asparagus stage drops into Kerbin and the core stage works as kind of a "transfer kicker".

Not only do I keep my space debris minimal, I also keep it from polluting the space of planets I'm visiting. Duna is pristine, despite my having launched 6 vessels to it at once not too long ago and having set up an absurdly elaborate base, station, and mining operation from those 6.

It's only laggy if you're within 2.5km or so of the debris.

um according to experience and this thread http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/58594-An-observation-of-the-effects-of-flights-in-progress

Even with stuff outside of 2.5km still effect lag, and though it says "flights in Progress" debris are still tracked like them so i would imagine they would affect the performance of someones computer

I`ve been trying to operate a clean space policy for a while now. For me it is part of the art of design. I made my Apollo replica so all the debris drops back to Kerbin, uses a FRT to do the same, stays at the landing site as astroarcheology debris or is put on a crash course to get rid of it that way on the way home. I`d rather use up fuel carrying seperatrons to orbit to deorbit a stage than have the debris.
