Scale of the Universe

Just thought I'd collect a few pictures to show how big the universe is in comparison to Earth, the first picture's of the local universe (1 billion light years across), the second picture of the Virgo Supercluster (contains the local group), the third picture is of the local group (contains the Milky Way), the fourth picture's of the Sun's position in the Milky Way, and the last picture is of Earth in comparison to the rest of the solar system and Sun.

It can be hard to grasp how gigantic known space is. Reminds me of this from the Hitchhiker's Guide:

"Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mindbogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space" - Douglas Adams
