F-35 STVOL but can be vtol

I just adjusted old F-35. Here it is:

Javascript is disabled. View full album

I made it a bit shorter (it was longer than my F-22)

Craft link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/q068r4

VTOL:

Set power a little above 1/3 and hit "1" & "2"

Before you take off, toggle gimbals (hit 4) and turn SAS on.

Move plane to fly toward. If you can't pitch down, hit twice "1" fast.

Ascending: a little more than 1/3 power*

Hover: 1/3 power*

Descending: a little less than 1/3 power*

*1/3 = first big line mark on speed clock (it's not 1/3 of real power)

If you starting to lose control:

Can't pitch up - hit twice "2" fast

Can't pitch down - hit twice "1" fast

Keys:

1 - Front engine (vertical)

2 - Rear engine (vertical)

3 - Main engine (horizontal)

4 - Toggle gimbals for vertical engines

Why toggle gimbals? When ascending/descending, wing <control surface> moves plane at other side than engines gimbals moving. For example, you want to pitch up. Wings allow for it, engines want you to pitch down ;d

If I change name, it would be fine?

To be honest, this plane is hard to ascend or descend without moving toward or backward. It can descend in one place, but 0.5 m/s , so I can name it STVOL

Have you ever flown one rocket turtle?

It still does look really cool, though.

I was focused on image and flying perform. I wanted it to be manuverable, stable, don't crack up in x4 speed (it still can fall apart) and be consisted with smallest amount of parts.

Take out the vtol engines, it would be much faster. I builded not VTOL version first. After 2 days I applied vertical engines.

I wanted to make replica. You should say if I achived "replica level" or no, but I worked hard on this craft, to achive that . I can add another engine, but i would need to adjust vertical ones. I'm tired to do that now, but i will update it.

I agree, your F 35 is replica level. I might fix the VTOL for it, it looks very cool. I don't really mind wether it is VTOL or STOVL.

Fix? What do you mean by that? I need to admit, that Vertical Landing is not so easy if you try to descend in one place (but it's possible. It's need some practice) It's much easier if you are descending when moving forward 5-6 m/s. The problem with falling in one place is that there are two vertical engines placed in length rather than in width. Why it's a problem? Because some of <control surfaces> are placed diagonally to make craft flying straight(horizontal) without SAS. So if it is descending in one place, <control surfaces> tilts plane and power of tilted engine from above tilt plane more. Sorry for english mistakes. I hope that you get it :) I can be wrong with that what I said. I'm noob ;]

  • 2 years later...

I've seen used your f-22 and f-35 but I don't get it that you use the "Wheesly" vs the "Whiplash" in your planes, i mean they would be much faster and that wouldn't be a problem, right?(correct me if i'm wrong)
