Kerbin Speed Run

Take off from KSC runway, circle the globe staying below 30,000 meters and land back at KSC runway.

1.All stock**,jet engines only.

2.Clipping is Allowed

3.Screen shots of ship on runway @ takeoff and landed @ KSC.

4.Resource tab open in both Screen shots

5.In Landing picture, you must be at a complete Stop.Cannot lose or drop any parts.

**Mods not effecting performance allowed ie..kerb paint, chatter, aviation lights ..ect are allowed

I know there are some challenges like this.

but none with a 30,000 ceiling( the same as the Elite Circumnavigator challenge, which is a great challange!)

and the others have formulas and points for doing little things like flying backward or some such thing.

This is just a straight forward challenge. Who can build the fastest Plane and pilot it round kerbin and back

in the shortest amount of time.

Why 30 km? I have plenty of planes that can operate perfectly fine at 40 km.

30km because GraviTykillz said 30km. Challenges don't have to adhere to the maximum operational ceiling of all KSP aircraft just because it's possible to go that high.

Here's my entry for this challenge. Thanks for the 30,000 meter limit!

This is my LRS MK-III, I overshot the landing pad coming in so I had to circle around and then land. This plane glides like a dream so it was easy to land.

This plane and flight was all stock, no mods at all.

His entry had all stock parts. All he did was change the texture colors.

Sry mate. Any Mod which doesn't change performance or add additional parts, Such as Kerbal Paint, Chatterer,Steam Gauges is allowed in most strictly stock challenges as they don't change performance.

And besides. KerbPaint is fkin awsome:cool:

Yeah, I'll throw it together.

All KerbPaint is, is just colors put on the textures. Also, gradients. Bare bones basic stuff for beginners.

I beat my time with a different craft. I think I'll try again later because I spent a lot of time gliding to the runway so I could do better. But this is much better than the other entry. I lightened the craft and removed some fuel. This one flies perfectly straight at cruising speed and altitude. I'm not taking full advantage of the 30,000 meter limit either so, I think this could go down to maybe 32 minutes.

I know there are some other skilled pilots out there who want to try this! its very Hard to do a sub 36 min with 30,000 ceiling

You really have to scoot along and time your re-entry right to get there. and of course building the right plane is equally difficult

Yeah, I got the right plane, I'm making a few tweaks to the design so it can go faster, fly higher and then I just have to get it to head towards the runway at the right time. I wasted 3-4 minutes gliding around because I was coming in too fast and too high. I need to come in fast, but I need to head down towards the ground way earlier than I did this time. I'll try again soon.

Flight Done! The LRS MK-V with the new improvements did really well. I could have done a better landing job, I overshot it, but I was able to do a sharp reverse loop and flip it over and land quickly so I'm happy with it. Can I have the 1 sec off for the time from the plane stopping for me to hit the button?

I made some improvements to the intake system on my plane so now all of the radial intakes are gone and I added 2 more ram intakes. So now it can fly higher and go a little faster. I just have to time that descent properly, it's been catching me up. I'm going to shoot for 33:30 or better, but it has to be perfect timing.

With my Zarkan, I managed to do it in 36:37. I started to go down too soon, so I think I lost at least 45 seconds going from the mountains to KSC below 600m/s. Also, notice how it was comfortable with only 4.4G max .

Your real time is 36:35, in that screenshot your stopped and it took you 2 seconds to hit the button for the next screenshot.

once you come to a stop, time quits running. take as many shots as you want. the time will be the same i belive.

So does the plane ABSOLUTELY HAVE to be on the runway? Is it okay if its landed just off of the runway to the sides, or a bit earlier?
