Transfer Progress to a new computer

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if or where the files are to transfer your career progress from one computer to another. For instance i am building a new machine and want to move my KSP progress over to that machine to continue where i am at with my science.

thx

That's easy - it's the Save directory under wherever you keep your KSP instance. Just copy the files from one machine to the other; everything should be covered. If you're working with mods, you'll have to reinstall the mods of course.

Of course, you could just copy over the whole shebang; it'll still work if you do (provided the new machine can run KSP, of course).

True words !

KSP is highly portable due to the install package. You can basically copy your entire directory from one system to another (or even put it on a USB drive). If you have already done a full installation, just look in the saves directory for your saved games which can also transfer (NOTE: save games require that you have the same mods on source and target systems or you will not be able to use your in-flight ships and stuff)

It's all in your KSP save directory:

Kerbal Space Program\Saves\*your save file*\

(On Steam it should be something like: Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Kerbal Space Program...)

It should have the persistence file (this is the important one, the file that stores all of your missions in-progress, science record, career mode progress etc...), the quicksave file, and the VAB and SPH folders with the crafts you've made with that save.

There is also another set of VAB/SPH folders that contain the stock crafts, you don't need to copy those, just the ones inside your save folder.
