Ground target marker

Is anyone aware of a way to get a marker at coordinates on the ground? Mechjeb puts a marker in map view but I'd like to see it in normal view. If the Lazor system can do it I haven't figured it out. Does GPS have a feature like this?

Basically I want to fly by coordinates specifies and land as close as possible. Maechjeb and Lazor have auto-pilots but I dont need them to fly and land for me. I just need a location marker in game.

work arounds but not really elegant.

I want to do a fly by first then decide if I want to send a rover or a Kerbal. Say I pick a good site for a base (aerial recon) and select coordinates on the map. Then I would start sending rovers and kerbals to plant flags.

I don't know of any mods that allow you to pre-designate a set of coordinates on a target body; really a scouting mission is your best bet. I know KER includes surface coordinates as part of the data it provides. So you can install it, add a KER flight computer to a small probe lander and use it to get a feel for where you're at while you're landing. Stick one on a rover and you can monitor your position as you travel along; the rover becomes the ground marker when it arrives at its destination.
