Looking for Stefan S, creator of [ST] SPACETECH – Landing Program

Hi Stefan!

I really liked the parts you made for SPACETECH, but they didn't work with the tech tree... so I took a little time and made the pack compatible with .22 career mode. Would it be okay if I made it available somewhere?

Caveat: Extensive testing is still in the works, but it seems to work okay from what I've seen so far.

Drop me a PM!

Thx

Since it's not mine to begin with, I'll give it a couple days and see if the creator shows up and gives it the go-ahead.. if not, what's the protocol for something like this?

hmm i never really liked the spacetech parts due to the fact that it would always mess up my IVAs but they were useful...

Yeah, I have not tested anything close to every aspect of every part, so use with extreme caution... I do know I could not get the "RoboticSystem" to load properly, so I just left that out for now. So far the crew modules at least seem to work, they accept Kerbals automatically and EVA works and they'll save crew reports and such. So I guess that's a good sign.

[edit] The lander legs also behave very oddly. Testing will continue, just in case.

I'll keep an eye open here, we'll see what happens. :)

I don't see any license info for the SPACETECH stuff on spaceport. By default, I believe that means you do not have permission to change/redistribute it. If you can make all the changes through module manager and avoid including any of the original author's work, I think that's allowed (though it's always nice to ask first).

Copyright only has to do with actual creations of the developer/artist.

Not only would Module Manager changes be allowed, there is literally no way the original creator could stop you from distributing it unless there was a EULA that you had to accept specifically for the plugin, and even then the power of such provisions in EULA's is very questionable, and have failed many times in court.

Of course, just because that's the case doesn't mean that it isn't impolite to do stuff like this without asking, or at least trying to work with the original creator, but you are not in any way obligated to if you do it without distributing content that the original creator made.

I made a dirt simple(no props) IVA for the escape pod. Since he made the glass transparent I merely placed one inside the real model.

Hello.. just wanted to ask, why did you have to make an IVA? I'm kinda new, but I assume you mean the internal view when you hit 'c'? As far as I know, it already HAS an interior view? At least, my copy does.

.

.

I do wish Stefan would come back, if for nothing else, to either release (at least temporarily) the license on this excellent mod so that someone can maintain it. I've done all the work to make it work for 0.23 for personal use, but I can't release it because I'm not allowed.

On a related note, been wanting to redo some of the pod colors.. is there an easier way to edit .mbm files than to muck around with a hex editor?

Also, a bit of googling found Stefan elsewhere, it looks like his interests have moved on, but it should be easy to try and contact him via the places he seems to be active.

Thank you for the link to the converter!! Worked the first time, very helpful! The UI is command line only, but easy to use (if a bit tedious). I took a few minutes to write a batch file to convert a folder at a time (+recursive subfolders) instead of each file individually, and added another batch file to use a different free converter to convert png to tga for good measure. Now I can extract texture files from an entire mod with one command! Many thanks..

Apologize for the thread necro, but after 3 days of googling, I have been unable to locate a working download for the SPACETECH Escape Pod. I've tried to PM the original author multiple times since the old spaceport site was taken offline to no response. If anyone has these files, please PM me. I want them for my own personal use.
