Displaying a part's information while in build mode

Recommended Posts

I thought that this ought to be an add on, but I haven't found it yet: I spend a lot of time taking apart stock craft in the VAB piece by piece in order to reverse-engineer it, but since I don't recognize most of the parts immediately, I have to guess-and-check by pulling parts into the workspace and deleting them if they don't match. If I could just mouseover or click an attached (or free floating) part and see its name, then I'd have an easier time reassembling the craft myself and understanding the parts and what they do better.

With time I'm sure that I'll begin to recognize all the parts just by looking at them, but KSP must pull in a lot of beginners who aren't rocket scientists to begin with.

I know I've seen similar suggestions in the past, but I can't find references to them on either of the two lists, so it must not come up extremely often. That said, I personally think having a way of seeing a part's stats within the build window itself is a good idea. I'd imagine it'll at least be partially addressed once tweakables are implemented in 0.23.
