sjwt
Installing mods is easy so long as they are for the latest version, just extract the files and put them into the Gamedata directory. They are find to leave in the folder they come in, and it makes it easier to manage.
Murph
The Steam client should have a "browse local files" option in the properties window for KSP. Right-click on KSP in your library, and select properties from the menu. That should open a window on the main KSP install directory (buried a few levels deep inside Steam's data directory by default). You'll know if you're in the right place by the presence of the GameData directory. That's just to help you find the location. Once you know where it is, you can go direct to it, no need to go via the Steam client app. While you're there, take the opportunity to backup your saves, craft files, etc.

Then, if something goes wrong, you always have the original game as a backup. In addition, it will be a lot easier to install mods and recover screenshots from a path such as D:Games\ KSP\Screenshots then to go through the long tree from the C folder that Windows with Steam forces you through. Monkeh
Best bet is to make a shortcut on your desktop for the steam 'common' folder. All your games will be in there. Mods go in GameData as usual. If you make a copy of the game, (Which is a great idea by the way, I have one for testing out new mods and stability before putting them into my main game), steam screenshots won't work, you have been warned! Tokay Gris
Maybe the problem is on a Mac?You need to find the files... In the Finder, press "ALT" while clicking on "Go", go to "library". Then, install as usual.I.e.: Move the mods into the Game Data folder.

Captainpilot747
I've tried all of this with the environmental enhancements and distant object enhancement mods and it hasn't seemed to work. I took the folders, extracted them, put them in GameData and launched the game. The mods didn't seem to work. I tried again, this time putting them into the squad folder, and still, nothing. Figuring out how to do this is key considering I want to get Kerbal Engineer Redux and a few other mods.
Snark
Good to know, but this is an ancient thread from over three years ago and everyone in it has presumably long since moved on. Locking the thread to prevent further confusion. @Captainpilot747, if you have a current problem you need help with, best to just spin up a new thread.
