Q: Mini KSP for Unity Editor?

Recommended Posts

So I was wondering if anyone has made a mini version of KSP for the Unity Editor. Meaning Kerbin in space and nothing else, maybe the sun and mun just so there is something for orbits. I feel like this could help modders out with testing certain parts and video makers could probably benefit from this a lot as well.

Is it possible to run KSP in the unity editor?

I guess what I really am asking for is a Unity Editor file of KSP (or at least Kerbin)

If this is way out in left field and unreasonable (or just wrong to do) be nice in letting me know, and forgive my ignorance :P

To the first question -- I don't believe anyone's made one.

To the second, well, I'm not familiar with Unity, but as far as I can see what you're basically asking for is the source code of KSP... and I don't think you have a snowball's chance in hell of getting Squad to just give you a copy wrapped in a bow. As most companies are, they're rather protective of their source code, as you can imagine :)

Yea Vexx, I felt like the second part was unreasonable.. I guess I was attempting to ask for a non detailed super basic version. Like a sphere around another sphere with no detail (or even color). This would be for the modders, figuring out GPS, grid maps and such systems may become easier. Then transfer what is learned to KSP itself. I could be way off though. Thanks for the reply.

problem is, you'd either need the source code of KSP and distribute that, or recreate the source code of KSP from the binaries.

First of course only Squad can do, and they'd be nuts to, second would almost certainly be rather illegal (and a very large effort).

I understand the reasoning and why it would be illegal, thanks for confirming that :)

I guess if what I suggested was available it would be a little to nice and allow the ability to 'steal' KSP from the Devs so to say. Which is not what I had any intention of doing. I will have to mess around some more and possibly tackle the 'very large effort' to create what my head can see yet not speak.

I still think the simple version of KSP would be helpful to modders for such things like tweaking SOI influences and direction of parts (ex. having a satellite dish always face the centre of a planet) but then again if that was true someone probably would have done it by now. I was just thinking that not loading ALL of KSP and it's extras might eliminate some of the head scratching at the start.

I'm no modder but I have tried a few times and having something like I suggested would have been helpful. The mods I attempted to make always were released before I finished my version, therefore I never released anything.
