Better game save system.

Recommended Posts

Any chance we could have a better save game / restore game system?

Named saves would be awesome. (Like "Just finished major space station").

I just quick restored over 3 weeks work....

Keep quick save/restore, but another option besides backing up everything would be wonderful.

About the only thing the save system needs is a quicksave for each persistence save. Anything else and you're pretty much turning KSP into extremely easy mode. Persistence doesn't matter at all if you can just restore from any random user-created point.

Also, there's a mod for this if you want it now.

Isn't there already a quicksave for each persistance?

I would argue that the ability to load from an autosave should be there too. There have been many reports of people quickloading back several years instead of minutes due to forgetfulness. In other games, loading the autosave is the standard way to recover from this.

Indeed. There used to be (still is in certain circumstances?) a warning about going back to a previously stored game situation, but quickload will undo years of gametime without any warning.

This is constantly recurring problem and there were many suggestions in this direction. The one probably easiest to implement is that when you press the F9 key shortly, it would tell you how old your quicksave file is without loading it.

Not that I know of.

Fair enough. I rarely use the quicksave so it's a very concious action for me. The problem with loading an autosave is that it saves at steady intervals; I think Kasuha's solution is much better.

Really? There's a quicksave file in each game save map, so it would make sense they are different.

I don't know myself, I only use 1 save game. Plus I never forget to make quicksaves, and only use them on the same mission to correct any horrible crashes

Something might have changed since, but back in 0.20 or 0.21 I loaded a quicksave and it ended up being from a different save.
