Glitch made me lose a tech point - can I edit a file to get it back?

I had a point researched in the tech tree, then it disappeared for some reason. This disabled my main ship. Is there a file somewhere that I can change something on to make the point get re-researched for no cost?

Yes.

In your persist file for the KSP save, open it and find this:

SCENARIO

{

name = ResearchAndDevelopment

scene = 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

sci = 62.86984 (Change this number to how much science you need)

}

Then go into the game and purchase the node.

OR

C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Kerbal Space Program\saves\[savename]\persistence.sfs (if using Steam)

Parts in bold vary depending on where you put KSP and where Steam is installed etc.
