Organizing modded parts in the VAB

Recommended Posts

Mods that add a ton of parts are really cool but they can clutter up the VAB parts tab (I'm looking at you B9 Aerospace). As a result, I occasionally have to spend an annoying amount of time paging through the structural parts tab to reach the stock parts .

The solution I propose is to organize parts into subfolders within the parts sections that are determined based on mods installed. That way, people would only have to look for the part in a specific subfolder; this is more manageable than a collective tab. The subfolders would be inactive while no mods are installed.

For example:

(First thing you would see when you look in the structural tab)

Structural:

>Stock (contains all stock parts)

>B9 Aerospace

>KW Rocketry

Let me know what you think. I apologize if my explanation is too vague for you to understand what I am talking about.

It's a mod issue, but a better sorting of the items on both building modes would be great.

Something like separating engines from fuel tanks and RCS.

We will get more parts, and a re-sorting, overhaul or even full remake of the list should come then.

I would like to see sub-divisions within the existing categories in any case, which mods could then take advantage of. For example only showing liquid fuel and oxidiser tanks in the propulsion tab, with another for engines.

a quick way to do this for now is to alphabetize your mods.

I renamed Squad to AASquad, and all stock parts appear first.

its fast and only requires minor edits to some files aroound other mods for it to not kill your game. (I had to replace /Squad with /AASquad in EVERY file that referenced it...thankfully I have notepad++)
