@Slugywug - Nice entry. Times and Fuel remain...thats the issues now.

@Mesklin - Nice entry. Times and Fuel remain...thats the issues now.

Thanks for above participant...seems that now everybody going for minimalism.

Leader board updated.

I think I will come out with part 2 for this challenge.

I know with mine I was going for the YF-23 experimental fighter jet look, while hard to pull off with stock parts I think I got it kind of close. The wings were tipped down in an attempt to aide the lift, looking back I am not sure it is really needed now. Here is an image of the fighter in question:

I think this is YF-23...However, your craft show the quality of itself.

@Col_Jessep - Missing RCS thruster block/port. (min=1)

My RCS thruster is in the nose under the air intake:

It was the only useful place for it and I got it to stick there by zooming in very closely until I was 'under' the intake. No dev cheats used.

I build another minimalistic SSTO for you Sirine. I'm afraid it's even uglier than the first one. Meet The Gnat:

MHbzM1K.jpg

12 parts. I might be able to bring that down to 11 but I doubt it.

ROaRqoZ.jpg

I made orbit in 7:39.

Col_Jessep

And here is a video in case the pictures didn't scare you away already:

I apologize, I'm not proud of the design. It should come with mind bleach... ;.;

PS: Maybe we could give everybody 50 parts to use freely without counting them for points? I'd love to build a nicer looking SSTO but for every part I save I get so many points...

Great entry...update the leaderboard.

I definitely will change the rules...at part 2... It is unfair for others, for me to change the rules now.

My posts lagging for hours, probably because I am a new user here. There is a second attempt up there from morning. I will try further.

BTW what was the point of encouraging minimal parts use? I think you could restrict airhogging instead. For example penalize more than one intake (or 0.2 air) per engine somehow.

This is the CRAP, the ChemRock Anaerobic Plane:

Xeldrak

  • Craft Name: CRAP
  • Part Count: 18 ((150-18)*10= 1320)
  • Time to LKO: 7:00 MET ((10-7)*50=150)
  • Fuel Remain:8.66 ((8.66/10) * 3 = 3.87)
  • Total score: 1473.87
  • Craft File: https://www./?pr15jjruu3a2yh3

OR (I'm a little confused your example calculation)

Xeldrak

  • Craft Name: CRAP
  • Part Count: 18 ((150-18)*10= 1320)
  • Time to LKO: 7:00 MET ((10-7)*5=15)
  • Fuel Remain:8.66 ((8.66/10) * 3 = 3.87)
  • Total score: 1338.87
  • Craft File: https://www./?pr15jjruu3a2yh3

Challenge guideline.

1) Single Stage to Orbit. (Means stage 0 only) (check!)

2) You must start from the runway. Liftoff horizontally and able to land horizontally. (check!)

3) No parachute allow for landing. And your plane must be landing friendly. (check!)

4) You must have present a "plane outlook" instead of a rocket with wings. (check!)

Challenge Rules.

*) No science equipments required. (No bonus for that)

0) There will be no poll-voting. (check!)

1) You are only allow to use a single type of engines. Thats R.A.P.I.E.R. engines. and 100% stock part only. (check!)

2) Must have at lease 80 units of RCS Gas. (And RCS thruster block or linear RCS port). (check!)

3) Must have at lease a docking port. (All sizes accepted) (check!)

4) Manned craft. At lease 1 crew. (check!)

5) Maximum parts allows 150. (check!)

6) No Alt-F12 part clipping. (Normal means part clipping allow). (check!)

7) Cubic Octagonal Strut, Octagonal Strut, Modular Girder Segment, M-Bean 650 I-Beam, and BZ-52 Radial Attachment Point are forbidden to use. (check!)

8) A screenshot of your craft and .craft file must be made available. (check!)

9) Flight ascend (takeoff) profile must include in in-game .craft description. (check!)

@Sirine: In you example point calculation, I think you mean:

"Time to LKO: 7:10 MET ((10-7.1)*50=145)"

or you mean

"Time to LKO: 7:10 MET ((10-7.1)*5=14.5)"

in wich case the overall points you provided do not add up.

Some amusement to be had in this challenge, thanks :) I went up in the command seat for a change, I think it's all stock parts but I've not had a stock game for a while, and had to add a battery because the RTG wouldn't directly charge my reaction wheels - very disappointing. And had to change the name as well and put a g infront as well, Rapier, gRape'r - I didn't really see a problem.

Craft Name: gRape'r

Part Count: 15 ((150-15)*10= 1350)

Time to LKO: 8:48 MET ((10-8.5)*5=7.5)

Fuel Remain: 14.75 ((14.75/10) * 3 = 4.5)

Total score: 1362

Any of you having issues with uneven thrust from multi-rapier designs? I am and can't figure it out...
Not as long as you have 100+% air on your intakes. But in 0.23 the jet engines don't flame out at 100% anymore, you can bring them down to 70% or something before they flame out. It seems they don't produce the amount of thrust when they get closer to their flame out which can lead to swaying of your plane. Nothing a reaction wheel can't keep in check though - at least in the design I tried.

Hey new to the game here and eager to join! Few questions though:

1. Are only the first 9 people listed on the leader board?

2. How exactly do I prove the time to LKO? Is this just honesty based or is there a section for that in the flight information page.

3. How to I bring up the flight information page without intentionally crashing my plane? Thats the only way I know how. Is there a hot key on Mac's to bring it up?

4. The 9th rule means I need to include a comprehensive description of how to use the plane in the .craft file?

Here is a video of my first attempt:

1. Are only the first 9 people listed on the leader board?

No. All participant will be list.

2. How exactly do I prove the time to LKO? Is this just honesty based or is there a section for that in the flight information page.

Base on screenshot or video recording. Once you enter stable LKO, your camera viewing angle will change. Or base on the 70x70km indicator.

3. How to I bring up the flight information page without intentionally crashing my plane? Thats the only way I know how. Is there a hot key on Mac's to bring it up?

F3 key on Windows, Mac's sorry I don't know, but I sure there will be key for that too.

4. The 9th rule means I need to include a comprehensive description of how to use the plane in the .craft file?

Yes.

Here is a video of my first attempt:

Hi ReeceEngineering...thanks for your participation. Please include your .craft file.

And some brief answer on above blue text.

And please use the format provided.

Tried simple SSTO right now (not participating in challenge, just test)

This new RAPIER engine looks almost like cheating. SSTOs are ultra-easy to build now.

I have a strange feeling that air consumption is broken when tweakable thrust limit is used.
