2,5 metres science parts?

This annoys me for quite a while - there are no 2,5m parts. What do I mean by this is that you can't really keep your design smooth and nice when you need to use small Material Bay and Mystery Goo to get science. This, especially before you get to better science equipment, forces you to build really ugly things like this:

I know that now technically we have lab module but it doesn't "produce" science, only refines it. I would like my spacecraft to look good and when you can stuck the Mystery Goo into the 6S Service Compartment Tubes there's nothing you can do with Material Bay. Spacecraft with science parts look especially ugly during the landing on Kerbin - you have your pod (and heatshield if you use Deadly Reentry) and on top of it just a pile of science stuff. Bleh.

My proposal: bigger Material Bay the size of a big RCS tank to keep your stations and spacecaft smooth and clean.

ok but there has to be a reason to it.

maybe x2 science because you get to carry more experiments.

but the current science sistem is dubious at best and heres why;

kerbal1;Oh look whe found that the mun has 1/6 the gravity of kerbin!

kerbal2:thats great its just what i needed to finish my mainsail prototype!

i know its alfa but they better change it sooner or later but seriously you should unlock parts by researching them not checking the temperature on Eve.

btw; im not pushing anyone its just that its like no one has noticed how ridiculous it is

One thing I've noticed is that a Kerbal can take the science out of science stuff and put it in his capsule, so reentering can be done with just a capsule again. But I still like having a bigger science bay even if it still does the same thing.

Well the science points are just an abstract concept and in the future you'll have to actually PAY for the parts research and to buy them for your spacecraft. So the science will only unlock the nodes on the tech tree, nothing more probably.

Yeah but you can't really build a nice lander now. Just look at the image of my lander - struts and bulky stuff on top of the capsule. It just looks ugly. And yeah, maybe there should be a little more science - after all the 2,5m part should be heavier than the material bay.

Actually, what I did in .22 (started over for .23) was used a 2.5 lander can, and put the science under it in the center line. I then used radial small tanks, put the motor on the bottom of the science can, and used fuel lines. It looked pretty sharp, and rather "real world non-atmospheric" lander-ish.

What I do now is put the science equipment on the bottom of the lander, take the data up into the pod via eva, and then leave it all behind on the surface. That way I can make it look nice and I'm not carrying pointless mass back to orbit.
