Okay,

Firstly hello. *waves* Bought this off Steam last Sunday. Loved it so much I decided to Buy it again (got to help the funding, especially when it's worth it). Patched took slightly longer than ever but I understand severs are packed.

How unbelievably amazing is this? So hair pulling hard it's unreal. Just under a week and mastered building the right rocket to make it too space and just finally learnt how to orbit (RTFMF) thank you Tutorials. - Reading some of everyone's stories about Mun bases and flying to the Mun etc.... blows my mind ha ha.

For years as an early 80's child I have looked to the Moon, now can afford my telescopic lens to see the awesomeness of this rock, dreamt as a child building and seeing a rocket go up and now I feel like I am fulfilling this dream :P with no easy steps.....

Does anyone have any great tips that I may of overlooked in my wide eyes child like fumbling around in a sandbox manor?

Cheers for reading and to whom ever replies, thanks! :)

Welcome Rob,

I'm not blowing any minds yet, but I've been Kerballing for a few months now and I'm with you. A friendly warning: It's addictive!

Lots of great info out there. I've found Scott Manley's tutorial videos on YouTube quite helpful and entertaining. Also one of the mods here, Specialist290, maintains a thread called The Drawing Board that is full of useful info and tutorials. I found what I needed there when I set out to build a SSTO (single-stage-to-orbit) spaceplane.

Plenty more to be found here on the forums too. There's a whole section of threads on How To (do whatever), so if you have a particular goal in mind it can be a good place to start.

Lastly, don't be embarassed if you spin out of control, blow things up unintentionally or kill Kerbalnauts. We've all done it.

Don't Panic. And remember to bring a Towel.

Jay

Tip number 1 for beginners: Try to make your important flights to the mun ect begin with an *equatorial* orbit around Kerbin... When I first started and first began achieving orbit, the next problem I had was trying to get to the Mun, but always had funky encounters because my plane was always jacked up... So that being said, work on achieving an equatorial orbit. It's the next step to success after being able to just achieve orbit.

Welcome to the community Rob :)

Light weight craft can do as much if not more than heavy rockets, just because you aren't lifting as much mass, so don't feel you have to build big to reach the planets.

Have fun on the forums and in KSP, and fly safe!

Welcome aboard, Rob. You are absolutely right about this game - it is highly enjoyable and extremely addictive. It has replaced (at least for now) a two year addiction to World of Tanks, and when faced with a little gaming time I'm always choosing KSP lately.

Tips? Don't be afraid of using some mods. The game is incomplete yet, and the mod community has made some great tools to help out in the meantime. In particular, I find Mechjeb to be invaluable. I don't use the autopilot features much, but the ability to have the delta-v's (read: capability) of your rockets calculated for you makes you feel like you're actually designing intelligently instead of straight trial-and-error. Another useful mod is RCS Build Aid; this lets you place RCS ports accurately to allow for RCS translation maneuvers that don't induce rotation in your ship. Not a big deal until you try your hand at docking, and then almost a necessity. Lastly, I always have the wiki open on my second monitor, usually to the fantastic delta-v map on the Kerbin page.

Hi! I think you'll find that this might just be the friendliest forum on the internet!

Advice: Try EVERYTHING. Literally everything I've seen someone else do in KSP, became possible after I gave it a shot. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll succeed, but learning that it's possible is like a light coming on.

If you hit a snag and can't figure out how to solve a problem, come over to the Gameplay Questions and Tutorials subforum and ask away.
