How to interpret the Science Archives?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm checking through this (really loving the archives feature btw!), but I can't figure out what it's truly indicating here.

Does the list show every possible point of research I could do, or just the ones I've already "discovered"?

What are the data points for each row in the Archives list?

  • Current data value: points left remaining in that category, or is this a multiplier of some sort (it's different between each category)
  • Value bar: Does this show research points still available, or overall completion for that category?
  • Science: is this value the net worth (in points) of the category?

I'd like to use the Archives to help determine what I haven't yet done, but it's not exactly clear if I can, mainly due to confusion surrounding the first question. I'm still a bit of a n00b with Career Mode, as I haven't utilized it nearly as much as many others I see posting on the forums, so I'm hoping somebody can help set me straight here.

Thanks! :)

The latter. It only displays reports for experiments you've already done, and only shows biomes that you've visited and returned data from already.

Just ran a few tests on this myself to be certain of my answers. From what I've gathered:

  • Current Data Value: Appears to be a multiplier. Every experiment has a constant data size measured in "Mits," which is multiplied by that experiment's Data Value to determine how much actual Science you get from recovering that experiment. The Current Data Value represents the multiplier that will be applied the next time that particular experiment is run.
  • Value Bar: Kinda sorta both; the "filled in" portion represents the amount you've already gathered relative to the total amount of scientific value you could get from that experiment.
  • Science: The total amount of Science points you've gathered from all runs of that experiment to date.

Hope this helps :)

Awesome! That's exactly the clarification I was looking for. So basically, the only indicator that there's anything left to do on a planet/moon/etc is the "xx of xx" at the top of the list.

Thanks for the heads-up! Wish there was a "Done in One" tag. :D
