Decoupling with operators?

Hello!

Finishing a rather complicated rocket (and flying as we speak ) I had the idea that a nice implementation into the game would be a setting for decouplers to automatically decouple when a certain condition is reached, such as "tank 05 empty".

that way I could just launch and only worry about some manual details of the staging if necessary and monitor the flight path better, without needing to switch back from map view.

This could be extended to other parts, such as "do science in this module when this other module is active", resulting in science cascades.

I could very well envision this as an extra submenu next to subassemblies and key shortcuts in the editors.

Any thoughts? Or is there a mod for this "parts logic"? Or even a way to implement this myself?!

One word, pretty much, for auto staging: MechJeb

It's not configurable as you suggest (which isn't such a bad suggestion, but could easily end up being tricky/complex to implement), just will generally do the right thing as far as staging on reasonably "normal" rockets.

I recall someone suggesting a whole scripting system a while back that would allow this. It definitely would increase the safety and efficiency of rockets when you drop boosters.
