Transfer electric charge in career mode?

Recommended Posts

So i just started career mode and my first mun-landing mission went pretty well.... until i ran out of electric charge because i used the communicator :>. Now jebbediah is stuck on the Mun ! I want to rescue him but also rescue the goo and materials that are on the other ship. is there a way to send an unmanned ship and transfer some energy? i dont have any docking parts unlocked yet though : / and i only have a one man pod i can send so there would be no place to put jebbediah in?! help!

Jeb can collect the science from the individual experiments on EVA, then store it in the pod of the rescue ship. There's no way to revive the dead pod in stock KSP, unless it has a docking port or solar panel. The KAS mod would allow an ad-hoc connection to transfer some power across.

Sadly, without docking equipment you're stuffed on the transfer of energy front.

Now, as to get Jeb and the Science back, that's now actually doable thanks to the latest patch as you can transfer science results between ships when EVA'ing. Just get Jeb outside and right click on the part. Move to a new capsule and it's happy days once again.

As for your problem of only having a one kerbal capsule, it's not a problem: start a new rocket with a probe core as the first part, and then add a capsule underneath. You can launch with an empty capsule as long as you've got a probe part for control.

The Stayputnik can be your fourth science unlock (Flight Control is the section), and handily to get there you have to unlock radial parachutes, so taking up the top of the capsule with the probe core isn't a problem.

Hope that helps.

[Edit: Derp, yes. Below posters are correct, you don't need charge for a manned mission]

You don't need electric charge to return home with manned mission. If you have enough fuel, you can get home just using the engine gimbal to steer. You'll have no roll authority but it's possible to live without it. And to orient ship to a maneuver, use lowest possible thrust.

Exactly the same happened to me too, when I was first playing Career.

Thanks a lot for the tips, ill have to launch an unmanned ship with an empty command pot as suggested, im currently using the lv909 but it is impossible to steer without electric charge. Landing was no problem though maybe i just got lucky... no matter the cause Jedediah has to be returned home safely! To the rescue!! :>
