Are the EVA helmet lights actually functional?

As the title says. I press U for lights but nothing happens, but I've seen YouTube videos where people use them.

There is a bug report about suit lights that Claw is working on, IIRC.

Spam the L key. Depending on how close you are to a high part count ship, you may have to hit it dozens of times to get the suit lights to toggle. I tend to only lose about one "L" keystroke in three.
