Accidentally moving parts

Recommended Posts

I am having serious problems while building my rocket.

The problem is that if I accidentally click on a part of the ship while attempting to move a strut for example, I end up moving half the ship instead by mistake. Sometimes I just cannot get it to fit back together after this happens. I have had to scrap 2 rockets today that took me probably half an hour each, and all because I moved half the ship with a stray click and couldn't piece it back together after.

Ctrl + Z is listed as being undo, yet I press it and it does nothing.

Yes, this is a favorite pet peeve of mine. As soon as I select the wrong part I'd like to be able to press esc to put it back where it was.

Ctrl-z does work (I had to ask about that myself), but you have to drop the part you selected first. It sometimes lags, and may do odd things once in a while.

Yep. It happens to me too. Just discard the selected part to the left side and press Ctrl-Z to undo. The animated Kerbals in the background should freeze for a few seconds and you should have your ship back to the state it was in before you grabbed the wrong part. You might have to reapply whatever the last part was like struts.

Best approach if this happens:

Step 1: press Delete key. The part you're holding disappears

Step 2: press Control-Z. It may take a short while, but the part should appear back where it was before

When picking up struts, you need to point your mouse at the place where the strut starts and you need to achieve the state when only the strut is highlighted, not the part to which it is attached. Sometime it involves a bit of pixel search.

I've noticed a very slight delay between when I click and when it responds. If I click a part in the catalog and move too quickly to place it, I'll either have no part at all or suddenly I'll have grabbed some part of my rocket I happened to have moused over. Or when just trying to move parts around, if I try to move too quickly after the click I'll end up grabbing a different part.
