Quickload desaster

I thought I quicksaved on a mission in my career game and did a quickload, but my quicksave was from maaaaany missions ago.

Now the progress of many days of playing is gone!

Is there a way to restore my career progress somehow?

Not really - unless you are extremely lucky and have not closed the game/reverted etc, and the game has not yet overwritten your autosave...

When quicksaving always check the upper right corner of the screen - if the game decides to not quicksave for any reason, it will not stop, it will just write the reason there.

Wouldn't hurt if the game made a quicksave automatically at the beginning of each launch.

Why would anybody want to load a quicksave from many missions ago?

I think this should be fixed or at least the game should display a warning that there is no quicksave of this mission!

I completely agree with you and there was a number of suggestiong in that direction already. So far, though, developers are busy with things they consider more important - such as finishing the feature set of the game.

If you exit immediately, you might be able to go back (if you don't give it the chance to autosave).

The quicksave/load system used to be tied to vessel launches, but it was changed a few versions ago

A simple fix would be to delete the quicksave data automatically when you exit the game. I cannot imagine why someone would go back to the quicksave of a previous KSP session, and those cases where someone does want to do such a thing are likely far and in between compared to the cases where players lost hours of progress because of reloading the wrong* quicksave.

There might even be the option of writing a script to launch KSP that will do that for you (it probably has to run with admin rights under windows since you're deleting files from a program folder).

While technically not a bug it is behavior that has caused players to lose their progress on multiple occasions, and now with "science" it hurts a lot more when that happens. The fix wouldn't be too extensive so i can't see why the devs wouldn't pick this one up.

* wrong: because it's not the quicksave they expected (since that one never materialized for whatever reason)

Kerbal Alarm Clock keeps a certain (tweakable) amount of save games at hand ...lets me rest better

I don't think it is a good idea exactly because I use that time to time. Warning with the age of the quicksave, sure. But I don't think deleting it is a good idea.
